*** About The Grotto: The Grotto, formally known as The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, is a Roman Catholic outdoor shrine and sanctuary located in Northeast Portland, Oregon. This 62-acre space combines both the tranquility of nature with the spiritual peace of a sanctuary. Dedicated to Mary, this holy site features a rock cave carved into the base of a 110-foot cliff with a life-size marble replica of Michelangelo's Pietà at its heart. Beyond its religious significance, The Grotto is a destination for both pilgrims and tourists, offering lush botanical gardens, walking paths, and a meditation chapel at the upper level accessible via an elevator built into the cliff.
